WVU President E. Gordon Gee Addresses ALMBS

Dr. E. Gordon Gee is one of America’s most prominent higher education leaders, having helmed universities for more than three decades. In 2009, Time magazine named him one of the top 10 university presidents in the United States.

In 2014, Gee returned to West Virginia University, where his career as a university president began. His leadership goals include putting students first, advancing the university’s research agenda, partnering with West Virginia communities and making sure that 1.8 million West Virginians know in their hearts and minds that West Virginia University is their university.

Born in Vernal, Utah, Gee graduated from the University of Utah with an honors degree in history and earned his J.D. and Ed.D. degrees from Columbia University. He clerked under Chief Justice David T. Lewis of the U.S. 10th Circuit Court of Appeals before being named a judicial fellow and staff assistant to the U.S. Supreme Court. In this role,

West Virginia Boys and Girls State: 2015 ALMBS Groups &emdash

The American Legion Department of West Virginia Graduates 387 Students from 78th Annual ALMBS

The American Legion Mountaineer Boys State was held June 7-13, 2015 at West Virginia University Jackson’s Mill. Students took part in creating the 51st State to the Union. Founded in 1936, the goal of The American Legion Mountaineer Boys State (ALMBS) is to educate and train youth in understanding one of the country’s most precious freedoms; the democratic form of government. ALMBS is characterized as “West Virginia’s premier school of Americanism, Citizenship and Leadership!” West Virginia proudly holds the 2nd oldest American Legion Boys State charter in the nation.

Judge Gina Groh Gives the Oath of Office to ALMBS Elected Officials

Judge Gina Groh graduated from Shephard University where she participated on the debate team.  She then attended WVU law school.  Started with a major law firm in Baltimore MD and returned to Martinsburg where she worked for Steptoe and Johnson.

She was then appointed assistant prosecutor in Jefferson County, WV and was appointed to fill the Circuit Judge position for Berkeley, Jefferson and Morgan Counties under Governor Joe Manchin III.

She was then nominated by Senator Jay Rockefeller to President Barack Obama to serve on the US District Court for the Northern District of WV, focusing on the Eastern Panhandle.  She is the first US District Judge to be appointed to the Eastern Panhandle Region that was native to the area.

Judge Groh was confirmed by a vote of 95-2 by the US Senate in March 2012.
