2014 ALMBS – Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito
Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito proudly serves the people of West Virginia’s Second Congressional District, where she represents a diverse constituency stretching from the Ohio River Valley to the state’s Eastern Panhandle.
Shelley believes that the challenges of our day demand bipartisan solutions and works with her colleagues on both sides of the aisle to advance legislation that benefits West Virginia. She has been a tireless advocate for a range of policies that directly impact West Virginians, including energy independence, quality health care, safe highways, national security, and veterans’ issues.
She also represents her constituents on two important committees in the House of Representatives. Shelley is a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, which will lead the way on a new highway bill during the 113th Congress. She is also a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee, where she is the chairwoman of the Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit Subcommittee.
Shelley, a former member of the West Virginia House of Delegates, is committed to being accessible and responsive to the people of the Mountain State. When Congress is not in session, Shelley regularly travels her 17-county district to meet with West Virginians.
Born in Glen Dale in the Northern Panhandle, Shelley lives in Charleston with her husband, Charles L. Capito. They have three children: two sons, Charles (wife Laura) and Moore (wife Katie), and one daughter, Shelley. They have also been blessed with a grandson and a granddaughter.
